INTRODUCTION

This document, the Policy and Procedure Manual of the Collier County Fire Prevention and Protection Code, has sprung from the on-going efforts of the Fire Districts of Collier County to provide enhanced uniformity and professionalism in the administration of fire and life safety regulations.  It is recognized that verbal, unwritten policies and procedures are unreliable and may vary from person to person.  It is our hope that the articles in this manual will provide the necessary continuity and tangible instruction our community deserves when considering the challenges of a quality fire and life safety system.

Generally, this manual is to be administered through the Collier County Fire Marshals Association and specifically through the Office of the Fire Code Official. Non-fire service persons or organizations wishing to suggest articles may do so through this office.  Fire district officials may suggest articles and prepare drafts.  All articles are to be presented in draft form for review and approval by the Collier County Fire Marshals and the Fire Code Official’s Office. Errors and omissions recognized within existing articles should be expeditiously corrected through an amendment review following the guidelines above.  Compulsory amendments necessitated by law or regulatory agency changes will be automatically performed by the Fire Code Official’s Office.

It is our intention that this manual be well distributed among the various fire districts and stations within the county.  At full fruition, this document will allow even minimally trained clerical personnel to render direction to public inquirers. A copy should be at the disposal of all those receiving and handling the public.

The articles herein, after due process and approval, are to be strictly administered as the uniform policy and procedure within the jurisdiction of the Fire Districts of Collier County.
