Collier County Fire Prevention and Protection Code POLICY AND PROCEDURE MANUAL |
ARTICLE NUMBER: FSK06-01
EFFECTIVE DATE: June 1, 2006
SUBJECT: Canopy coverage – Mercantile Occupancies
OBJECTIVE: To provide consistent protection under canopies of all mercantile occupancies exceeding four (4) feet in width
BACKGROUND:
A number of mercantile occupancies have been built meeting the requirements of 8.14.7.2 and with statements on the plans showing that the area will not be used for storage or handling of combustible materials. However, once the building receives its certificate of occupancy, it then becomes a maintenance issue to prevent sidewalk sales, outside sales of Christmas trees, cypress chips, etc. Therefore, it is in the best interest of all parties involved to require sprinklers under canopies.
POLICY/PROCEDURE:
All canopies exceeding four (4) feet in width at buildings labeled for mercantile occupancies shall have sprinkler coverage consistent with Ordinary Group II occupancies.
