SUBJECT:  Fire Department Connections

OBJECTIVE: To standardize the FDC size at all locations.

BACKGROUND:

The codes related to NFPA 13, 13R and 13D allow 2 ½ inch and 1 ½ inch FDCs. However, standardization to one size (2 ½ inch) will provide uniform response of firefighting units and make the process of hooking up to the FDC consistent and more efficient.

POLICY/PROCEDURE:

All Fire Department Connections shall be 2 ½ inch NST male thread. FDCs shall be installed and maintained with protective caps.
