SUBJECT: Aboveground Fire Protection System Piping
OBJECTIVE: To provide a consistent manner of installation of aboveground piping exposed to the elements in particular, but not limited to connections to backflow preventers and risers.
BACKGROUND:
Non-metallic pipe is subject to damage from the sun, lawn mowers, trimmers, accidents, etc. Damage to these pipes may render a fire protection system useless in an emergency, therefore, it has been determined that only suitable metallic pipe shall be used in any above ground piping that is part of a fire suppression system.
POLICY/PROCEDURE:
Piping exposed to the elements shall be suitable metallic piping and installed in a manner consistent with the code, manufacturers suggestions and industry standards for protection, support and installation. Support for the any backflow device shall also be provided in accordance with manufacturer’s suggestions.
