Collier County Fire Prevention and Protection Code POLICY AND PROCEDURE MANUAL |
ARTICLE NUMBER: FL05-01
EFFECTIVE DATE: January 1, 2005
SUBJECT: Fire Lane Sign Spacing
OBJECTIVE: To set a standard minimum spacing requirement for Fire Lane signs in Collier County.
BACKGROUND:
It is the intent of the Fire Districts to clarify, define and address the issue of minimum spacing requirements for Fire Lane signs. Although NFPA 1 addresses this subject, the State of Florida has amended the code to specify only maximum spacing of 60 feet. The purpose of the Policy/Procedure is to also include a minimum spacing requirement of 40 feet. Where unable to comply with the 40 feet requirement, the local AHJ can deviate accordingly.
POLICY/PROCEDURE:
Effective this date, as determined by the AHJ’s, fire lane sign spacing will be set at a minimum of 40 feet and a maximum of 60 feet, unless determined impractical by the appropriate AHJ for that District. Also, let it be noted that this policy addresses new construction only.
